A rumor about the great Ghanaian football player Asamoah Gyan ordering a DNA test to be done on all three of his children from his relationship with Gifty Gyan, now Gifty Oware, surfaced in February 2019.

The majority of Ghanaians criticized Gyan for questioning his wife and requesting the dissolution of their marriage as the story spread like wildfire over the media.

Asamoah Gyan was revealed to be the father of all three children with the publication of the DNA test results from Medilab.

Asamoah Gyan’s legal representative, attorney Kusi Appiah, has revealed why his client requested the DNA testing four years after the tests and with the advantage of the Accra High Court’s decision on the marital annulment case.

Lawyer Kusi Appiah said in an interview with Asempa FM that Asamoah Gyan was under pressure to request the tests from Mr. Oware, the husband of his now-ex-wife.

Kusi Appiah claims that the aforementioned spouse, who resides in the UK, has repeatedly maintained that Gifty Appiah gave birth to the children when she was his registered wife and that there’s a chance the kids weren’t Gyan’s.

Mr. Oware has repeatedly threatened not to give Asamoah Gyan access to the kids because he thinks he is their biological father.

“When the DNA test proved that all kids were his, Asamoah Gyan was extremely happy. He was happy because he had been challenged by someone that his wife wasn’t his and that at the time they married, the wife was also married to another person. The person even told Asamoah Gyan that he suspects some of the children were his.

“The right thing for Gyan to have done was to make sure that he conducted a DNA test to prove the paternity of the children. When people were criticizing Gyan for being irresponsible, he was jubilating because he had been vindicated.”

On October 31, 2023, an Accra High Court rendered a decision in the three-year-long divorce case of former Ghana star Asamoah Gyan.

In 2013, Gyan and Gifty were married. The court decided to dissolve their marriage and issued orders on who the couple’s three children’s fathers are.

Gyan had earlier contested his paternity, which prompted the court to order a DNA test, the results of which established that he was, in fact, the children’s father.

Dennis Law, wrote of the paternity issue in their report: “Initially, Asamoah Gyan had denied paternity of their three children, seeking an annulment of their marriage. However, the court, in its decision on October 31, 2023, established that the three children are indeed the progeny of Asamoah Gyan.”

Additional directives concerning the maintenance of the children following the divorce said that “Asamoah Gyan is required to pay Gifty Gyan a monthly sum of 25,000 Ghana cedis.”

“This stipend is allocated for the upbringing and welfare of the three children, excluding expenses such as school fees, medical and dental care, flight tickets, and various other childcare-related costs,” the law firm added.
